Here's Bea -- getting some respite from the heat at Pink Beach. This was from back in her 'long hair' period -- maybe 1997, or '98. Pink Beach is the one beach
on Bonaire with a real sandy beach. However, in 1999, Hurricane "Backward" Lenny's storm tide surge threw up a lot
of coral cobble onto the beach. It's taking some time, but Mother Nature, and some civic-minded folks have
pretty much gotten the beach back to its former condition. |
Here's Marvin at the beach/dive site named Vista Blue. This is on the south eastern shore, and we rarely see many people when we visit here. Actually, it is one continuous, accessible shoreline from south of Kralendijk - towards the south - and around the southern tip of the island. There are markings along the shore road for some 21 or more dive sites along here. But, none of these are "official", and you can access the shore from any place you fancy. |
Here is another beach 'spot' without a name -- along the south east shore. During each trip we've adopted one of these 'micro' beaches and named it "Jones Beach" for the duration of our stay. We get a little bit of sand, some reasonable diving, somewhere to read trashy paperback books, and a place to lie out in the sun without the overhead of Sorobon (an inside joke for Bonaire visitors.) The pickup truck you see here is typical of the rental vehicle used on Bonaire. It is quite handy for hauling around scuba tanks and other bulky gear. |
