I retired from Wells Fargo in August of 2020 - right in the midst of the pandemic. It's been a fun new chapter filled with volunteering, hiking, camping, some travel, and general exploring of new and different things. More travel is planned on the horizon.
My career began in July 1984 starting with United Banks Service Company, then Norwest, then Wells Fargo - probably a lot like many of you.
Cheers to you all and may you enjoy good health and many adventures!
I've included a picture of one of my retirement activities - hiking!
I worked at UBSC/Norwest/Wells Fargo from 1982-2018 coding assembler for EFT online systems (ATM and teller) and then coding in Java on the banker platform.
I met my husband - Scott who worked at the Minneapolis office - at work too. We moved to Florida in 2012 and now live on Siesta Key.
I love the beach, traveling, and dancing hula.
Billie Jon King, pictured left above, aka, BJ Tyson, departed UBSC in 1985, settling in Arizona shortly thereafter.
In 1987, I went to work for SRP, a major water and power utility company in the Phoenix area. Following completion of certification in financial planning (CFP) in 1988, I began managing its 401(k) Plan and did so until my retirement.
On 9.9.99, I married Kyle King, thus acquiring a name that leads to comments and questions from anyone who remembers a certain female professional tennis player.
In 2004, Kyle and I built our retirement home in Fountain Hills, AZ, where we continued living happy lives until he passed away unexpectedly in April 2021.
About to have another birthday on August 15, 2021,(they just keep coming, thankfully), Margaret Piccinelli said, “No one should be alone on their birthday!” I agreed and flew from Phoenix to Denver so Margaret and Jim Piccinelli could sing “Happy Birthday” to me, which they did, as well as springing for drinks and dinner! Margaret provided the party hats. Jim opted out on his, and we went along, after all he was paying.
"Mike Stansbery, now much too old and slow for tennis, plays the old folks game of pickleball."
My 18-year career at UBSC, the most exciting and productive time of my life, was followed by 20 years in IT consulting and another 5 as a journeyman house painter. Yep, I'll take house painting over consulting any day.
After 40 years living on the front range, my wife Judy and I opted for milder weather and moved to Montrose, Colorado where we both enjoy playing pickleball. I also enjoy fishing the nearby Uncompahgre River where the local trout welcome the old guy who wants only to tire them out before releasing them for some future encounter.
Yes, as Joe Walsh once said, "Life's been good to me so far."
In 1998 I retired from UBSC after 38 years and then again in 2001 from Cherry Creek National Bank.
I then moved to Colorado City until 2006, when I married Sherry Rogers and moved to Westcliffe, Colorado. In 2009 I went on oxygen 24/7 and in 2014 we moved to Pueblo which is at a lower altitude.
We enjoy camping in our motor home and travel to our home in the Turks and Caicos islands in the winter for a few weeks.
I turned 81 in 2022 and am doing fine health-wise except for a few aches and pains. I am a Great-Grandpa with 2 Great-Grandchildren.
I worked at the DTC building from 1997 to 2011, when I moved to Gilroy, CA, where where I have been full-time telecommuting ever since working on Branch web applications.
I married a lovely lady here, (Myrna), who is a social worker/ teacher, and we spend most of our time working, but I do enjoy cooking, and riding my ridiculously fun motorcycle, which is awesome out here in California.
I also took up practicing Capoeira in 2021. It is a Afro-Brazilian martial art, and it is tough, but I do a reasonable job of it. There is a strong musical component involved, and in the picture I am holding a 1-string instrument called a Berimbau.
Since my departure in 2000 after 20 years with UBKS, UBSC, Norwest and then eventually WF. My new start was in network infrastructure design for the oldest engineering firm in Denver, left and have been back for over 6 years. Still have a few more years to go before retirement.
Have been on the eastern plains (Byers) since 2002 living on a small farm. Been working mainly from home most of the work week since the great pandemic. Do not miss the drive into downtown Denver.
No real adventures to share, just as all of us getting older and time passing by very quickly. Roxie and I have now been married 44½ years.
Wishing you all good health.
I retired on 2/2/2002 after starting with the company 7/1963.
Irene and I have always enjoyed road trips. Our major trips were to follow, by car, the Oregon Trail and Lewis and Clark's route to the west coast. We stopped at every related stop along the way as well as wagon tracks in Wyoming. We have covered the western half of the United States by car. We attended a National band contest in Indianapolis when our grandaughter's band participated. Also made it to Branson to take in shows and see the museum of my favorite celebrity, Roy Rogers.
I just turned 84 - 12/26/22, my wife is 79. We've been married 60 years as of 8/5/2022.
We still live in the house we built ourselves in north Turkey Canyon in Jefferson County 9/1970. Our health is that of 80 year olds but we take care of our two acres. I bowl in a 50's+ league.
Worked at UBSC from 1973 to 1981. Went to work at NCR and served as System Engineering Region Director until 1997. Had to take early retirement since I refused to relocate to California.
Married Darleen in 1987 and and we moved to Dillon in 1989 where I served as mayor from 1998 to 2002. We currently live in an age-restricted gated golf community in SE Aurora, CO. Have been there since 2003.
We have a timeshare in Puerto Vallarta and go every year in January so we can go whale watching. The photo was taken in 2022 at Tivoli Gardens amusement park in Copenhagen. We were on a European cruise at the time.
I am in good health and finally retired in 2022 from working the sports car races after 64 fun years. Most recently was with Rocky Mountain Vintage Racing.
I turned 85 on January 6, 2023.
I worked at UBSC from 1972 to 1997 and left upon notice of Norwest purchasing Wells. The boys in MN were headed to a warmer climate.
I worked as a contractor for a Trust Company in Denver on an AS/400 platform hoping to work part time. After 18 months it turned into a full time plus gig. Retired.
In 1999 we started a traveling tour of the U.S. on multiple trips to taste American flavors across the country. We even visited Parris Island where I had spent some exciting times 30 years earlier.
Two years later I started Girls softball umpiring at a serious level. Multiple hip surgeries ended that adventure. Retired finally after 5 years.
We still live in Castle Rock (35 years), play golf in a senior league, seriously exercise, travel and visit our cabin near Steamboat. Life is good!
UBSC was a unique environment and challenging for the individual. We argued, yelled, but "striving for excellence" was key.
Yes, I still believe in Santa (4 grandkids).
At UBSC from 1981-1985 as Employee Relations Rep and Training Specialist. I went to work for USWEST (MIS Advanced Technologies and Communications) for 20+ years in various IT positions and then retired in February, 2006. After which I did "software Project Management contract work" for several years for various financial services companies in the Denver area.
I now live outside Sedalia, CO with my hubby Tom on 4.5 acres and enjoying seeing the stars at night. I volunteer at Help & Hope Center (Treasures) in Castle Rock in my spare time, along with learning the idiosyncrasies of container gardening.
I left UBSC in 1984 after working there about 9 years & went to U S West in the newly formed unregulated side of the business. In 10 years at USW, I worked in MIS, in diversification planning, international cellular & cable expansion & internet application development. It was an incredible experience. When I left in 1996 I was VP of Integrated Systems.
After working in large organizations (which provided great opportunities & also great headaches !!!), & wanting a complete change, I left to join U S Relocation Services which provided outsourced employee relocation services to companies such as Costco, Fidelity, Newmont Mining etc. I was president of that company till 2003 when I decided to retire early & have more time to be with Jim (who was enjoying retirement already & having way too much fun).
I still live near the Tech Center & also in Scottsdale, Ariz. to be near our son Jeff & his family (2 granddaughters). Jim & I had a wonderful life together enjoying family, good friends & travel.
With Jim's death in 2022, I'm figuring out this next chapter of life. I'll continue to travel (gotta do it while you can!) ... & I am off to Antarctica in March, 2023 for an new adventure.
I started at UBSC in December of 1984 as a programmer under Jim Stokes in CPCS. Later I transferred into Bill Ditman's Customer Relations department where I happily stayed until I left in May of 1988 to get married.
The thing that I am most grateful for at my time at UBSC is my friendship with a very young programmer (back then) whom I met on my first day there, Dale Yergert. Dale is one of my best friends, compatriots and conspirators and we have been celebrating 'anniversaries', birthdays and holidays together laughing for 38 years.
My husband Bill and I have been married for 34½ years (2023). We have two sons, Justin and Jason. We have lived in Highlands Ranch for 26 years after short stints in California and New Jersey. I began subbing in my sons' elementary school 22 years ago and have somehow managed to make a career out of it. I am semi-retired and love having time to spend with my friends and family.
I joined United Banks collection department in 1968. I transferred into programming and worked on CRT’s for Bank Tellers. I transferred to UBSC developing accounting applications in Colorado Springs and the UBSC data center in the Denver Tech Center. I also implemented Decision Support Systems for UBC and Bank Presidents, Interest Rate Sensitivity Reporting and Graphics.
I took a position with the US West MIS department in 1985. In 1995, I was promoted to Director of Product Management and Marketing for National Products, providing copper and fiber to connect customer’s Branches and Data Centers. Following 5 acquisitions/mergers my team added International Support for Asia/Europe, and Data Center co-location.
I retired in September of 2019.
Bonnie and I enjoy time with our family and grandkids, outdoor activities including boating, water and snow skiing, and daily hiking in Boulder and Golden Gate Canyon parks which are near where we live.
I left UBSC in Spring 1976 to explore new worlds – The Old World, actually – with a multinational job based in England. Dear friend Jackie Hansen joined me and decided to stay. We married in our village church and began a series of unique, never-to-be-forgotten experiences over much of three years. But then we returned home to enjoy welcome air-conditioning.
I rejoined Lockheed-Martin, working on space-exploration projects. Eventually, I retired, remarried, moved to Seattle, took up sailing and bronze sculpture. But we missed sunshine, so after six years we returned to Colorado. (I also sampled the African sun on a 3-week walking-safari in Kenya ... HOT! Lions too; keep your camera ready!)
Last year my wife Petra & I published a memoir revolving around my old car-racing days. It covers this more recent period too. Check it out!
Now in my 90s, I’ve finally stopped skiing and am settling down. But happy memories of UBSC folks never fade.
"
I started at UBSC in 1980 right out of High School, in Sorter room/CPCS. Moved downtown on Pearl st. Then One UBD Center, 5th floor.
Left as a manager 2 in 1991 -- the day before Norwest merger -- with a huge severance package. I was under Marie Zoeller & Jerry Bernstein for most of my time in CPCS. Mike Ainsley at UBSC.
Worked for UPS for 20 years and retired in 2011. Worked for the US Postal Service for 5 years, and currently working the last 5 years with FedEx.
So I went from banking to transportation field.
Currently live in SE Aurora near Grand View and Regis high schools. Son graduated Grandview and currently [2023] at CU Denver.
Visited Iceland and Tuscany, Italy in 2021 -- during COVID-19. Planing a return trip to the rest of Italy in March, 2023.
Loved working at UBSC from 1973-1998. It was my greatest career experience working with so many great IT, banking, and genuinely nice people.
Left in 1998 and again was able to work with Barb Nielsen and Bill Stirling at FirstBanks of Colorado.
Later I was the executive director of Colorado Performance Excellence, which was affiliated with the Baldrige National Quality Award Program, from 2002-2011. We should have applied for that award at UBSC!
After 2011 I taught math, business, and environmental science for seven years at Argosy University -- another very enjoyable experience. Many students were veterans from Afghanistan and Iraq.
As a family we all have taken up golf after COVID -- including my kids, grandkids, and Joie. Eight of us play back-to-back foursomes every weekend we can. A highpoint was being at St. Andrews, Scotland in 2022. (See photo above).
We loved seeing so many of you at the 2021 50th Anniversary of UBSC. Thanks to all of you for who you are.
It has been so long, I don't remember when Bill and I retired. We moved to Arizona where we semi-retired for several years and boated at Lake Powell.
We moved to Florida where Bill was working in the late 80s I think.
I moved to San Diego in 1996 after Bill died and got involved with helping friends with accounting software. I officially retired in 2008 when the company I worked for filed for bankruptcy and the stock market tanked.
I regret having to miss all the UBSC reunions.
I retired as an AI developer from what was left of UBSC in 1995. I was ready to retire. I was proud of what I accomplished in my career, but I was also excited about what my future held. I was looking forward to spending more time with my family and friends. I also wanted to travel and explore the world.
Since then I have done a lot of traveling -- Europe, Asia, and South America. The family and I have gone on camping trips, hiking trips, and even a few cruises.
I've also been able to pursue some hobbies. I've taken up golf, and I enjoy playing pickle-ball. I also started writing a book.
Retirement has been a great experience for me. I've been able to do a lot of things that I never had time for when I was working. I am grateful for the opportunity to have retired, and I am looking forward to many more years of enjoying life.
And lastly -- and probably leastly --
Ye Old Webmaster:
I left UBSC around 1977 - going to STC, and in 1979, Bea & I moved to Gunnison (the first retirement). In the 1980's I was an adjunct professor at Western State College & I had a side hustle repairing office equipment.
In 1989, I took up consulting & contract programming. UBSC was my primary client for contract programming through the 90's. Too, I was a stringer instructor for several national consulting companies (QED, Yourdon, etc.).
In December, 1999, I packed it all in.
I'm taking the 21st Century as PTO.
In 2002 I created the sparse beginnings of this website. It's come a long way.
In 2005, after 26 years in Gunnison, we moved to just outside Pueblo -- where we remain.
Since 1999 we've been visiting Anguilla twice each year for 3 weeks at a time -- where we've made many friends. We have been U.S. Masters Swimmers from 1974 through the present. I continue to do 'unique activities' in my Amateur Radio hobby.
