Clifford M Ide  (May 9, 1933 - December 10, 2015)

Cliff Ide passed away on December 10, 2015.
He died at Porter Hospital in the arms of his wife, Pauline. He was a victim of ALS (also known as Lou Gehrig Disease). He rapidly deteriorated at home during the year 2015.
He was cremated. His ashes are interred in the Ossuary at Olinger Mortuary at Hampden and Yosemite.
There will not be any "celebration of life", memorial, obituary, or religious ceremony for Cliff. He preferred it that way.

Here are some memories sent by Cliff's friends and colleagues:
(Almost everyone who commented mentioned his omnipresent Brown Sweater).

Good guy, who fought for UBSC (--with Norwest primarily.)
--Tom Mauro

I remember Cliff, wearing his brown sweater and with a pencil in his hand, wandering about UBSC through the day and night.

What I remember most about him was the fact that he always had time to talk to you about any questions you might have had. He truly was a gentleman and one hell of a nice guy!
--Marv DeSelm

I worked with Cliff in 1964 on the Apollo project for North American Aviation in Downey, CA. We went separate ways. And then - surprise! - ten years later we're back together again at UBSC.
--Jim Ague

Cliff was definitely one in a million, and his contribution was key to making UBSC a success.
--Jerry Slavec

Sudhir Nath and I were discussing Cliff's passing this afternoon in Minneapolis... One of the things I remember most about Cliff ... was the software bug he uncovered for Tandy Corporation (Radio Shack). I think he retired on Tandy's dime from UBSC for 5 to 10 years - spent it all (I hope) - and then came back to UBSC for a few more years. Sudhir remembered Cliff most for his NASA ventures (it's difficult to imagine Cliff working with a bunch of rocket scientists - well then again - maybe not too difficult.   :-)

And then there was the time we in Computer Operations dropped a couple boxes of punch cards in front of Cliff with him thinking it was his IHEXEC code (he darn near passed out). I also vividly remember seeing Cliff on Kennedy Golf Course not too far from Hampden and Yosemite for a UBSC golf outing. Cliff was wearing some combination of a doubled brimmed hat almost like a pith helmet replete with side flaps to cover his ears along with a long sleeve shirt and trousers on a 90 degree day. Back then you could wear golf shoes with metal spikes - but not Cliff. He had on street shoes sans spikes - a man before his time.

Man those were the days. Brings a smile to my face as I picture it. Though Cliff would not like any of this as implied in Pauline's email.
Rest in peace Cliff.
--Jeff Williams

I'll always remember his signature brown sweater!
--Pat Hogue
