Martha Garrett Benson
March 17, 1928 ~ January 30, 2020 (age 91)
Marty died peacefully from advanced dementia complications. She was 91. Marty was born in Evanston, Illinois where she attended Evanston Township High School and Northwestern University. She and her husband, Bill, were married in 1950. They moved to Colorado in 1959 when Bill took a position with Arthur Anderson Accounting.
She is survived by three children, David (Laura), Bonnie Zeller (Warren-deceased), and John (Shelly). Marty had seven grandchildren: Jeffrey Zeller (Monika), Brooke Alam (Raheel), Tim (Nacira), Andy (Nina), Charlie Zeller, Katie, and Melanie. Marty had one great granddaughter, Lanie. She was predeceased by Bill and a daughter, Cynthia.
Marty worked at Cherry Creek High School as the ever-popular "copy lady," as well as shorter stints at the United Bank and the American Cancer Society. Marty's great hobby was her family. When her children were young, she provided the classic "Mom's taxi," taking Dave, Bonnie, and John to countless tennis tournaments.
As a grandparent, Marty was a constant presence at baseball, football, basketball, tennis, cross-country, dance, field hockey, lacrosse, soccer, and music events. For years, Marty was the "Camp Mom" at the family's Benson's Tennis Camp, where she affectionately took care of more than 7500 summer tennis campers over 15 years of camps at CU and UNC. She continued her role as Nana when all seven of her grandchildren attended Cherry Creek High School. They and their friends could always count on a place to store their gear and a piece of candy (faculty were known to partake of the candy as well).
